William Howard Mitchell, Sr.

November 18, 1935 ~ April 25, 2019 (age 83)

William “Billy” Howard Mitchell, Sr., affectionately known as ”Billy,” was born on November 18, 1935 in Penns Grove, NJ. He departed this life on April 26, 2019 transitioning to his heavenly home.

At the age of three  Billy was adopted by Godfrey A. and Luberta Price (both deceased), who were devoted parents until they departed this life for heaven. Billy attended elementary school in Williamstown, NJ and attended high school in Glassboro, NJ. After graduating at the age of 17 he entered into the U.S. Army. Billy was a skilled transport vehicle driver traveling in Germany, Paris and throughout Europe.

At an early age Billy accepted the Lord and was baptized by Rev. Nichols at the St. Matthews Baptist Church in Williamstown, NJ.  In 1957 he met the love of his life, Clara Pratt and they were married on June 27, 1958. Through this union were two children born, William H. Mitchell, Jr. and Luberta A. Mitchell. They later adopted special  daughter, Carmen into the family.

Billy was employed as a metal polisher first in Franklinville, NJ, then to Falkenstien Metal Company in Philadelphia, PA and lastly Merit Metal in Willowgrove, PA from which he retired.  From retirement he became an avid gardener who was very proud of the vegetables he and Clara grew. He won an award for the largest tomato in South Jersey in August 14, 1984. He was also an avid fisherman along with his fishing buddies Unk, June, Roger, Chuck, and Frank. He was known to his fishing buddies as “Duke.”

He was a loving husband and great father to his children and even greater grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to vacation, taking the family on many trips to Florida. They traveled to such places as Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and Poconos. He loved good food and while in Florida had favorite places he would take the family to, Quincey’s, Morrison’s and Fat Boys for ribs. He was also fond of entertaining family along with his wife, hosting many reunion picnics in their backyard.

He leaves to celebrate his life his loving wife Clara B. Mitchell, his son William H. Mitchell (Toda), Jr., his daughter Luberta A. Hall (Jeffrey), 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, Sister Irene Bundick, sister-in-laws, Elzora Diggs, Jean Cooper, and Joan Merriweather, special daughters Carmen (Clark) Jefferson and Diane Hall, special family friend Julie (Peppy) Thornton-Harris and Goddaughter Aleesa Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
