On October 5, 2000, Thomas Reyes, known as “Tommy” to some, was born to Yashira Colon and Marino Reyes in Camden, New Jersey. During his short life, Thomas was very pleasant and polite to others. He was a leader in many ways. Thomas would be supportive of his peers and family in any way that he possibly could.
In January 2013, Thomas, his mother and siblings relocated from Camden to Sicklerville. He transferred schools from Freedom Prep Charter School (Camden, NJ) to attending Winslow Township High School (Atco, NJ). While in school, for a short time, Thomas played baseball for Winslow Township High School. During these years in Sicklerville, Thomas was highly active in his community. He became involved in Men Empowering Nations, a young men’s mentoring organization. There he served as a leader by doing community service and assisting senior citizens. In 2016 he gained recognition by becoming the mentee of the year for his outstanding service in his community and leadership skills. In 2017, his family relocated to Clementon, where he attended Highland High School, as a senior, and was on his way to graduating in 2019.
At the age of sixteen, he began working inside of a local barbershop in Sicklerville and redirected his future from wanting to major in Criminal Justice to pursing the art of barbering, long term. In and outside of the barbershop, Thomas sharpened his technique, passion and began perfecting. Thomas, just like other teens, faced many obstacles and trials in his life that were very challenging. He was known to many people as “Thomas the Barber” and had great potential to succeed in his life, until it was unexpectedly cut short on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Although he is no longer here with us physically, his smile, love and charm will live in our hearts forever.
Thomas Reyes leaves behind to mourn, in his passing, his mother (Yashira Colon), father (Marino Reyes), sister (Deysha Mosley), and brother (Yandel Segarra). He also leaves behind both of his grandparents: maternal (Sonia Cruz and Jose Echevarria) (Luis Colon - grandfather) and paternal (Mercedes Cabrera and Mariano Reyes). He also leaves behind a host of family and friends.
