On the morning of Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 8:30am, a soft voice came to Amelia Sturdivant aka “Bossie” at 428 North 9th Street in Camden, New Jersey, saying; “I am here to take you home.” This voice was the voice of her master calling her home.
“Mom Bossie”, as everyone called her, was born to the late Ethel Flowers and the late Eugene Owens in Wadesboro, North Carolina on March 17, 1941. She was the oldest of four children.
Amelia was educated in the public school system of Wadesboro, North Carolina where she also was a member of Gatewood Station AME Zion Church. In 1954, she moved to Swedesboro, New Jersey and continued her education. Later in life, she met and married the late Thomas V. Sturdivant.
In 1985, Amelia became a member of First Refuge Baptist Church in Camden, NJ under the leadership of Rev. G.T Harriston. She was employed at the Mount Laurel Convalescent Center in Mount Laurel, NJ, where she retired.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and going to the casino from time to time. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Amelia was very family orientated. She kept the family close along with special friends and anyone else she came in contact with.
Amelia leaves to cherish her loving memories to: Four daughters, Wavone Hawkins of Glassboro, NJ, Olivia Murray of Lindenwold, NJ, Patricia and Cenise Sturdivant both of Camden, NJ; Two sons, Thomas and John Sturdivant both of Camden, NJ; One son in law, Sam Murray of Camden, NJ; Three predeceased brothers, John, James, and Lester Willoughby; One sister in law, Dorothy Willoughby of Willingboro, NJ; Seven grandchildren, LaMesha Sturdivant, Taya Lloyd, Tyheem Sturdivant, Jaszmine Rivera, Tikeena Sturdivant, Sherman Ballard, and Rahmir Sturdivant; Six great grandchildren; She also leaves to cherish her memories to a very special friend, Vickie “Christine” Pratt; Mom Bossie also leaves to cherish her precious memories to her extended children , Moe, Dreek, Landy, Nett, Iris, Kathy, Linda, Yolanda, Niecie M, special Niece Catherine Gibson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
